1940s Blue Scavo Amphora

Found in Umbria, 1940s Blue Scavo AmphoraUmbria

1940s Pale Blue triple handled scavo glass Amphora found in a private home in Umbria. The scavo technique literally translates as 'excavated' and it was introduced in the 1940s to create a rough opaque finish to hand-blown glass so that it resembled the excavated Roman glass found on archeological sites. This particular piece has three wonderful hand-blown intricate handles all intact. I fell in love with it because of its wonderful blue colour. It is in good condition considering its age.
