17th Century Miniature Map of Venice

An extraordinary miniature map of the ancient city of Venice published in Padua by Matteo Cadorin in the 1670 edition of Francesco Scoto's 'Itinerary of Italy' guide.
This delightful small map has intricate details of the ancient streets and monuments. "Venetia" at the top with the shield of the lion of San Marco on the left. The island of Venice appears disproportionately large within its lagoon. The engraving includes stylized houses, Piazza San Marco, the Rialto bridge - still in wood, the Arsenale, the vegetable gardens and gardens of the Giudecca and the island of San Giorgio. The lagoon is crossed by boats of all sizes and shapes, sailing and rowing. It is well preserved with uniform inking and the original 17th century paper it was printed on. We have mounted it here in Florence but recommend that it is framed to preserve it for the future.
