17th Century Maps of Venice, Florence and Milan

An extraordinary set of three maps of the ancient cities of Florence, Milan and Venice. Published in Padua by Matteo Cadorin in the 1670 edition of  Francesco Scoto's 'Itinerary of Italy' guide.

These delightful small maps have intricate details of the ancient streets and monuments. They are well preserved with uniform inking and the original 17th century paper they were printed on. We have mounted them here in Florence but recommend that they are framed immediately to preserve them for the future.

Venice

"Venetia" at the top with the shield of the lion of San Marco on the left. The island of Venice appears disproportionately large within its lagoon. The engraving includes stylized houses, Piazza San Marco, the Rialto bridge - still in wood, the Arsenale, the vegetable gardens and gardens of the Giudecca and the island of San Giorgio. The lagoon is crossed by boats of all sizes and shapes, sailing and rowing.

A beautiful map of "Fiorenza" including the Arno and its city walls. The exceptional detail shows the Duomo, the Pontevecchio, Pitti Palace, the ancient walls and the surrounding countryside. An excellently preserved engraving on its original parchment.
