1800s Venetian Marble Frieze with Peacocks

Found in Venice, 1800s Venetian Marble Frieze with PeacocksVenice

An exceptional travertine Marble Peacock Frieze carved in the early 1800s. This travertine frieze was found in a courtyard in Venice underneath a berry tree. The peacock and tree of life motifs both signify good fortune. Hand carved in the early 1800s, it is almost certainly a copy of the Byzantine peacock frieze visible today at the entrance to St Mark's Basilica in St Mark's Square, Venice. It is in good condition considering its age. This wonderful frieze makes for an exceptional collector's piece for inside or outside the home.
