Guido Andlovitz
I first discovered the work of the genius ceramicist, Guido Andlovitz in 2020 when I found the most exquisite blue and cream striped coffee service which went to a client with exceptional taste in London. I have been collecting his vases and ceramics ever since. Guido Andlovitz was Art Director of the famous Italian ceramics house, Società Ceramica Italiana Lavenia in the 1930s. His work was colourful and modern with elements of playfulness as yet unused in Italian ceramic design. His originality of form and shape make many of his pieces instantly recognisable today. The professional rivalry between Gio Ponti at Richard Ginori (the Tuscan ceramics house) and Guido Andlovitz at Lavenia was well known and helped to raise the reputations of both designers. He died in 1971 but his work lives on in galleries, museums and collections around the world.
